Thanksgiving Heads Up! (11/10) Ms. Lydia’s students got to test their skills this week by playing Thanksgiving Head’s Up. Each student chose a different Thanksgiving dish in which they had to ask yes/no questions to figure out what they were.
Heat Energy Transfer Labs (11/10) Ms. Spicer's students explained the process of making ice cream in terms of heat and energy transfer. Afterwards they enjoyed their product .
Colonial Breakfast (11/10) Third and Fourth grade gifted students have been learning all about George Washington. Last week they looked at science during colonial times and determined that making butter was a physical change! Students were able to gather information and experiment by making their own butter! Of course they had to taste test their experiment!! The next day, they brought cooking to the classroom and enjoyed George Washington's favorite breakfast, hoecakes with butter and honey!
Text Features (11/10) Mrs. Hodum's ELA students studied text features this week. They reviewed what they learned by participating in a Text Feature Scavenger Hunt and performing Text Feature Surgery!
Encyclopedia Scavenger Hunt (11/7) During library this week, students practiced Encyclopedia skills by working in small groups to answer November task cards which asked questions ranging from the first Thanksgiving to Daylight Savings Time, Daniel Boone, Dia de los Muertos and more!
Narrative Writing Practice (11/7) Mrs. Hodum's third grade students practiced narrative writing in groups. Their stories included characters, setting, and plot. Then, students illustrated their writing.
Finding Area (11/6) Mrs. Kirk's math classes are practicing finding the area of shapes. The students each drew a shape on their desk, and labeled 2 sides of that shape with numbers. Then, each student visited each desk in the room finding the area of their peers' shapes.
Making Music! (11/3) After a study of sound energy and how vibrations cause sound, Mrs. Heatherly's students made harmonicas!
Sound Energy (11/3) This week, Ms. Spicer's students learned about sound energy . As their end of the week project, the students used their knowledge of sound, vibration, and design to create a bee swarm instrument.
Learning About Light Energy (11/1) Mrs. Hall's fourth graders studied about light energy. They wrote a KWL chart about it, and viewed the Magic School Bus video to enhance their lesson.
