(3/6) What a fun week celebrating Read Across America! Our students showed their school spirit with some super fun dress-up days! We also loved having special guest readers visit classrooms to share their favorite stories.

We had fun reading everywhere! 📚✨

(3/6) Mrs. McNeal’s class wrapped up Read Across America Week with a fun Horton Hears a Who Day! 🐘🌼 Students compared the movie and the book, enjoyed some yummy snacks, and even made their own clovers—because after all, a person’s a person no matter how small! 💚📚

(3/6) After reading How the Grinch Stole Christmas! by Dr. Seuss, students in Mrs. Hodum's class designed their own snowflake “Name-Villes” inspired by Whoville. Each student imagined a unique town based on their name and illustrated it before cutting it into a snowflake. After creating their towns, students wrote narrative stories describing what life is like in their Name-Ville, including the characters, traditions, and activities that happen there. This activity encouraged creativity, narrative writing, and text-to-self connections with the story.

(3/6) Today Mrs. Andrews and Mrs. Hodum combined classes and read Bartholomew and the Oobleck by Dr. Seuss. After reading, they talked about the strange green oobleck that fell from the sky in the story. Then, students became little scientists and followed measuring instructions to create their own oobleck. While making it, they practiced measuring, following directions, and observing how matter can act like both a solid and a liquid. Students explored the texture and discussed how their oobleck was similar to the oobleck in the story.

(3/6) Today, 4th grade ELA classes had a sweet way to work toward their AR goals! Students read about cakes, decorated their own, and labeled each layer with themes, settings, and character traits from the books they’ve read. They topped off the lesson with a delicious shortcake treat!

(3/6) Math + sunshine = the perfect lesson! ☀️📐 Our 4th grade teachers took learning outside with a Geometry Scavenger Hunt, where students searched high and low around campus to find shapes and angles in the real world. Hands-on learning makes math even more fun!

(3/6) Congratulations to the following students for receiving positive office referrals this week. Keep up the good work!

(3/5) The Pontotoc Choir put on a magnificent performance today for our students. Thank you so much for coming and sharing your voices with us!

(3/5) Mrs. Hodum's class read "The Cat in the Hat" by Dr. Seuss, and then watched the animated version to compare and contrast the book and the video. Students discussed similarities and differences in characters, setting, and events. To wrap up, they designed their own creative hats and imagined their own Cat-inspired adventures, bringing their learning to life in a fun and engaging way.

A big THANK YOU to our amazing cafeteria team for serving up this fun treat today to help us celebrate Read Across America Week. Our students loved it! We appreciate all the hard work our cafeteria staff does each day to make the cafe' a special place at DT Cox! 📚✨
