Young Writers Poetry Festival

(4/1) Third grade gifted students Cora Hill, Aubrey Johnson and Ella Tutor each wrote a poem for the Mississippi Poetry Project. Out of many entries, their poems were selected as school-wide winners. They, along with Gifted Teacher, Leslie Hilliard and Librarian, Kristy Dowdy traveled with other winners from PCSD to Delta State University to attend the Young Writers Poetry Festival. Their poems were printed in the Mississippi Poetry Project: Dreams and Wishes anthology, and each student received their very own copy to keep!
The goal of the Mississippi Poetry Project is to help students experience the joy and accomplishment that can come from writing poetry, and from sharing their own voices, words, and experiences. Poetry is for everyone, and there’s no wrong way to write a poem. Words can be a tremendous source of delight, play, and comfort, and these students were very excited to be published poets!
