Lessons from STEM Class

1. Students read Turkey Trouble by Wendi Silvano and then had to use limited supplies to create a disguise for their turkey. Students used engineering, design, and hand eye coordination to create these disguises.
2. Set the Table- Students were given a paper of Thanksgiving type dishes. The students colored and cut them out. Then they were given 24 dominos and 20 popsicle sticks to build a table that would hold all the dishes without the dishes touching. After building, students had to measure the table and find the area and perimeter of their table.
3. Native American Heritage Create a Totem Pole- Students were paired up and used a table with different descriptions of animals and personality traits. Students had to decide for their partner an animal that described them. Then each student had to decide a symbol for the community and a symbol for their family.
4. Prodigy/Coding- Several students wanted to work on Coding from code.org or math skills on Prodigy.com.
